Biography

Fernando Almeida-Souza holds a Technical Education in Chemistry (1999) from Federal Institute of Technological Education of Maranhão, Brazil; Bachelor's in Veterinary Medicine (2009) and MSc in Animal Science (2011) from Universidade Estadual do Maranhão, Brazil; PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2015) from Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Brazil. Currently is professor of Immunology (2012 to date) at Master’s in Animal Science, guiding doctoral and master’s students of Master’s in Animal Science, Universidade Estadual do Maranhão. Has research funding by FAPEMA, FAPERJ, CNPq and CAPES.

 

Research Interest

Pharmacology, immunology and pathology studies of zoonosis, with an emphasis in leishmaniasis; ethnobotanical compounds, in particular from Brazilian amazon, and synthetic compounds for leishmanial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activity; in vitro assays, in vivo infection and treatment in murine and canine models, with the overall aim to identify novel drugs and targets, as well clarify the immunopathology.
