plant nutrition and the rhizosphere processes underlying nutrients uptake. In particular, the study of the complex relationship between plant, soil and microorganisms in the process of nutrient acquisition is one of the central topics in the research activity of dr. Youry Pii. He applied thereby interdisciplinary methodologies, such as molecular biology, genomics, genetics, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and plant physiology, aimed at identifying the molecular mechanisms that control important plant traits related to mineral nutrient acquisition, biotic and abiotic stress tolerance.
