Food technology is deals with the production procedures that make foods which is one of the subsidiaries of food science. It is a science which deals with the methods of processing and preservation of food substances. It helps in manufacturing safe, wholesome and nutritious food products. These studies are to develop a new methods and systems for keeping food products safe and resistant from natural harms like bacteria and other micro-organisms. It helps in the preservation, enhancement of flavour and reduction of toxins in food products which results in better distributional efficiency and easy marketing of the food product.
The conversion of agricultural products into food or of one form of food into other forms is known as Food processing. Refrigeration and freezing, Canning, Irradiation, Dehydration, Freeze-drying, Pickling, Pasteurizing, Fermentation are Food processing methods that are used to preserve foods. Based on the past experience, perceptual differences, habitual intake and responses to environmental cues, individuals make decisions of Food. Sensory science measures and evaluates the characteristics of foods that make them appealing to consumers.
23rd International Conference on Food Technology & Processing in 2019 witnessed a union of peerless speakers who enlightened the crowd with their knowledge and confabulated on various new-fangled subjects related to the field of Food Technology. According to food sector (excluding agriculture) is showing resilience to the economic downturn with an increase of 6.3%. There was a rise of food wholesaling -7.4%, food manufacturing - 4.7% and non-residential catering -14.6%. Food retailing changed little at 0.4%. The consumption of meat worldwide has become twice in the last 20 years, and it has been expected to get double again by 2050.
