Introduction

Ichthyology, the branch of zoology that focuses on the study of fish, plays a major role in understanding aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, and the conservation of marine and freshwater resources. As a science, ichthyology encompasses the taxonomy, physiology, behavior, and ecology of fish species.
