A Multipulse STATCOM for Harmonics Elimination in Power System

Abstract

In this paper a 12 pulse 2 level GTO-VSC based STATCOM is used for reducing the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) that are produced internally and by Non-Linear Load simulated with the studied power system. For achieving the objective of Harmonics Reduction in Power system, it is subjected to different load with and without consideration of magnetic saturation. The magnetic saturation of Transformers used in VSC topology results in increased THD. With the configuration used THD reduces and satisfy the IEEE standards.
