Detection of Adulteration in Petrol Using Gas Chromatographic Technique
Abstract
Gasoline and Diesel are major transport fuels in India. Complaints on adulteration of these fuels at the point of sale or during transportation are a severe problem faced by the country. The present study on analysis of Gasoline by GLC and its comparison with the simulated samples of adulterated Gasoline reveals that the adulteration of Kerosene in Gasoline can be detected at a minimum level of 2%. In addition, it does not require any sample preparation. The method used has been found to be sensitive, specific to kerosene adulteration, rapid and economical for analysis of adulterated sample of petrol.
