Valproate Induced Reduction in Fibrinogen Levels: A Systemic Analysis
Valproic acid (VPA) is one of the most frequently used antiepileptic drugs for the treatment of focal and generalized epilepsies. VPA has been demonstrated to have a negative effect on both the intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation systems. This article focusses on VPA induced fibrinogen reduction and hypofibrinogenemia. We systemically analyzed the fibrinogen reduction after VPA treatment and the ratio of hypofibrinogenemia incidence. The result WMD (weighted Mean Difference) of fibrinogen reduction was 54.61, 95% CI (70.2, 39.02), P<0.00001. The OR (Odds Ratio) of hypofibrinogenemia was 6.38%, 95% CI (2.04, 20.01), P=0.001.
